Serra Bonita
In 2013, the OCA donated $30,000 to the Instituto Uiraçu to expand the Reserva Serra Bonita.
This reserve is in the municipality of Camacan, in the cacao region of southern Bahia (Brazil), and our funds were matched by the RainForest Trust. The Serra Bonita Reserve is an essential contribution to the preservation of the Atlantic Rainforest, protecting one of the last remnants of moist submontane forest and its endangered, rare and endemic species. This reserve has excellent biodiversity and you can learn more about the orchids and birds that are found there. Vitor and Clemira Souza, the originators of the reserve, were recognized by the National Geographic Society for their conservation work, receiving the Buffett award in 2010.
