Tour led by Sebastian Vieira and Luis Pérez (In Situ Expeditions, Colombia) and Mary Gerritsen (Orchid Conservation Alliance)
Jul 18th – August 10th
This “Orchids in the Wild” trip begins in Bogotá, Colombia. The first week of the tour will be in the Amazonia region of Colombia, where we will visit lower elevation and riverine forests. This will be followed by a second week in the highlands and páramos near Bogotá and Villa de Leyva.
An optional add on will be to travel by air from Bogotá to the city of Medellin, followed by a 3 day tour to the vicinity of the Salvamontes Orchid Reserve, a recent reserve funded in part by donations from the Orchid Conservation Alliance.
Trip participants may also take part in a second optional add on, which is to visit the spectacular Medellin Orchid Show, take a city tour of Medellin, and attend the world famous Desfile de Silleteros (an incredible costume parade with amazing flowers). This second add on will be individually priced based on the hotels selected, city tours, orchid show dinner, and tickets to the orchid show.
Our trip will be led by Colombian natives Sebastian Vieira and Luis Pérez who have been exploring the Colombia outdoors for years, looking for orchids and photographing nature. They started InSitu Expeditions as a way to share with others the fabulous places and diversity of their homeland. This will be the OCA’s second tour to Colombia with InSitu Expeditions.
