TRIP SUMMARY
This “Orchids in the Wild” trip begins in Perth (Western Australia) on September 21, where our trip members from various parts of the world will meet for a welcome dinner at our hotel in Perth.
Our first full day will be on Sept 22 in the Perth area where we will visit several local orchid sites and the spectacular botanic gardens at Kings Park. For the next 8 days we will travel south towards Albany and west to Margaret River with overnight stays in Katanning, Bremer Bay, Albany, Manjimup and Margaret River, making our way back to Perth on Sept 30. Flights home or to other parts of Australia (not included in tour) will occur on Oct 1. This is spring, the optimal time to visit Western Australia, when nearly everything is in bloom. We are likely to see over 50 di?erent orchid species, as well as innumerable other wildflowers, flowering shrubs and trees, carnivorous plants, kangaroos, parrots, cockatoos, lorikeets and other amazing flora and fauna.
Our trip will be led by Andrew Brown, lead author of Orchids of Western Australia and Field Guide to the Orchids of Western Australia and co-author of Orchids of South-West Australia. Andrew frequently leads orchid tours to this part of Australia and is very familiar with the localities and the identification of the di?erent orchids we will see. We hope you can join us! Due to limitations in accommodations and transportation, the maximum number of tour participants is 16.
